About this measure:
The data represents lodging taxes collected by the County Treasurer. A 4% lodging tax is collected by on all hotel rooms in the County.
Why this is important:
Lodging tax revenues are an indicator of the community’s success in attracting tourism. Tourism dollars help create economic growth and expand the County and City tax bases.
What is being done:
The Pinnacle Bank Arena was built to help generate greater tourism dollars for Lincoln. The City supports numerous events throughout the year with the City Events Team.

About this measure:
The data for this indicator is reported attendance by event organizers. Event attendance can be greatly influenced by the weather.
Why this is important:
Community events contribute to civic pride and quality of life while attracting tourism dollars to the City. Attendance is an indication of a community’s willingness to support events and whether barriers exist that discourage people from going.
What is being done:
The City works closely with event producers throughout the City to make events safe and successful. The Citizen Information Center also helps to promote these events on the government access channels.

About this measure:
The data for this measure is from the City Clerk’s Office. The figures represent only those events that are reviewed by the City Events Team.
Why this is important:
Community events contribute to civic pride and quality of life while attracting tourism dollars to the City. The number of events is an indication of community’s willingness to support both new and repeat events.
What is being done:
The City works closely with event producers throughout the City to make events safe and successful.

About this measure:
Respondents are asked to rate maintenance of public display gardens as part of the resident satisfaction survey conducted every two years. Data prior to 2012 came from a resident telephone survey conducted for the Parks and Recreation Department. Trends are compared against the benchmark from A Study of Public Opinions Regarding Parks and Recreation Services and Facilities in Lincoln, Nebraska, 2000*.
Why this is important:
Public gardens are destinations for community residents, visitors and tourists. Quality public facilities present a positive image of the community.
What is being done:
The Parks and Recreation Department manages the Sunken Gardens, a public display garden with an emphasis on annual flower plantings, the Hamann Rose Garden in Antelope Park, a display rose garden with an emphasis on hybrid tea, floribunda, grandiflora and miniature roses, and the Rotary Strolling Garden, a public display garden with an focus of hardy landscape roses planted in combination with perennials and ornamental grasses.

About this measure:
The ratio of special events occurring in park areas per park operations staff (i.e., number of seasonal and full-time FTE’s) is calculated and monitored to determine trends over time.
Why this is important:
Special events and activities occurring in park settings provide opportunities for community residents to enjoy performing arts events, sports activities, community celebrations, social gatherings, and fundraising events. Many special events draw visitors to Lincoln who have a positive economic impact on the community.

Support of large events and gatherings in park areas require staff support, particularly on weekends when a majority of these events are scheduled. Staffing of special events can reduce the availability of staffing for regular parks maintenance activities typically conducted on weekdays.
What is being done:
Parks & Recreation Department staff work with a community residents and organizations to schedule, plan and provide support for community events. Annually there are more than 180 special events and activities ranging from corporate picnics and charity walks to the community 4th of July celebration.
